Bob passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, at the age 72.

Robert Oliver Jacobson was born on January 20, 1947, the son of Cecil and Kathleen (Strandvold) Jacobson in Fargo, ND. Bob grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1965. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from December 30, 1965 until his discharge on December 21, 1971. During his service he received the following military decorations – National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and Good Conduct Award.

He was united in marriage to Donna Nokes in March of 1968 in Saratoga Springs, NY. Three children were born to this union – Joseph (1968), Thomas (1973), and Cecil (1977). Bob worked for many years as a self-employed serviceman and went on to work for the NDSU library until his retirement.

Throughout the years, Bob was very active in Boy Scouts, and also several community area Veterans Service organizations. He served on the American Legion Post Executive Committee, and as Post Adjutant. He was active in the Scouting program as a youth and then spent 28 years as an active, registered scout leader. He served as Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and committeeman of Troop 216. He served on District Commissioner Staff as a trainer and as a unit commissioner. He served as Chapter Advisor for the Order of the Arrow and was elected and inducted into the Vigil Honor Society. He was the Commander of the USS Robalo Base of the United States Submarine Veterans Incorporated. As such he planned and organized the dedication ceremony for North Dakota’s Sub Vets WWII Memorial in Lindenwood Park in Fargo. He served as Chairman of GODORT, and also sat on the Executive Board of the North Dakota Library Association. He served as Vice President of Chapter 42 (NDSU Chapter) of the North Dakota Public Employees Association. He was one of the 2004 NDPEA Activist of the Year recipients. Bob was very proud of his Bachelor of Science Degree he received from NDSU in May of 2003, at the age of 56.

Bob is survived by his three sons – Joe Jacobson of Fargo; Thomas (Chris) Jacobson-Chism of Dallas, TX; and Cecil (Jill) Jacobson of Detroit Lakes, MN; his seven grandchildren – Andrew, Samantha, Cydney, Dakota, Tristan, Alayzha, and Alyse; and one great-grandchild soon to arrive. Also surviving are his brother, Richard Jacobson of Fargo; and niece and nephew, Laura and Steve Jacobson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Jacobson.
